Shamanic Wellsprings and Revelation Through Wild Nature

Taking Root in Similar Soil…

Scattered across our earth, shamanic practices were, and still are, found almost everywhere.

It’s generally considered that before the occult, before esotericism, before the classic religions of this time, our ancient ancestors sought communion with the unseen forces of nature that shaped their existence, using a variety of archaic practices and techniques to do so.

Scholars hark back to the Paleolithic era giving birth to shamanism, while others suggest that our pre-historical origins are much stranger than we’re led to believe.

Whatever the case, it’s clear that shamanic practices and cosmologies have long been percolating through the human psyche.

While the word “shamanism” has been extracted from the Tungusic languages of Siberia and applied as a blanket term on many cultural practices across our earth, the roots of shamanism take hold in similar soil:

  • revelation through direct experience with nature

  • mastering energy and cultivating personal power

  • bridging worlds between this one and the other

  • techniques for altering consciousness

  • communion with spirit beings

  • totem allies

  • shapeshifting and other extra-sensory psychic phenomena

  • ceremonial and ritualistic practices

  • initiatory processes

  • healing the sick

  • revering the sacred

  • service to community

  • and the overarching normality of animistic consciousness.

Shooting Stars & A Butterfly’s Kiss…

It should be noted that not all who practice shamanism do so in the name of benevolence.

The shamanic healing traditions of the Andes and Amazon, for example, broadly labelled as curanderismo, run parallel with brujeria; black magic.

It’s not entirely uncommon for shamans to involve themselves in power games, dark magic, energy harvesting and any number of malevolent practices.

The polarity of light and dark, black and white, good and evil, knows no bounds.

Some suggest that shamanism was humanity’s first religion, while others offer a clear distinction between the two. When it comes to religion, it’s not uncommon for an intermediary to stand between yourself and truth.

This could surely be disputed if we look to the core; the essence; of the great religions of the world. Those central wellsprings from where wise mystics draw nourishment are arguably all pointing to truth; to various truths, that are accessible for all to find ourselves.

But with the grotesque distortions of political, financial and ideological hijacking over the centuries, much of religion has come to a point where someone else dictates what the truth must be.

(else you burn in hell)

Shamanism, on the other hand, is all about experiential knowing; gnosis; direct revelation; personal communion with nature; with spirit.

It’s having truths arise and arrive through our own revelatory experiences. If only we learn how to listen and see.

There’s a re-tuning of our sensory apparatus that comes through our words, songs, rituals, ceremonies, gestures, meditations, lifestyles.

If we place an ear to the ground; to our earth’s crimson heartbeat, with the other aimed skyward; to the stirrings of the cosmos, the great whispers and synchronicities filter through with more ease…

Dropping us a feather, a butterfly’s kiss, a shooting star, the spark of an ancient one guiding us toward the new yet ancient future.

Can you feel it?

Are you walking the path?

Are you yearning for that ancient remembrance?
